Localizing iPhone apps for Eastern and Western cultures

The WSJ has talked to the heads of a couple of companies developing Apple iPhone applications specifically for the local mainland Chinese market. Mao Guangcan the CEO of Colorme Info Tech of Beijing when asked what the hard bit to doing business was had this to say:

Mao: The most difficult part should be the differences between Eastern and Western cultures. Our apps are used by different users, so we have to consider what kind of games are appealing to users from the West and the East, respectively.

So Mao’s dev team can’t even simply copy their very own apps they’ve developed for western audiences. Read more.
